The Marais
“Marais” means marshland. This area of Central Paris was attributed this name given that it was a march until the 12th Century when the Order of Temple, a religious group, start building.
In the 17th Century, the construction of the Place des Vosges started and the area began to be inhabited by the French Bourgeoisie.
The Marais is composed of private hotels and you can still enjoy its small streets and antique architecture, which composes all its charm.
Several communities have come to take over the area: the Jewish community, the Chinese, and the artistes with their numerous galleries, among others.
